What’s the best movie ever?

What is your favourite movie?

I’m going away on holiday in a few days, and of course, I have to rent a ton of DVDs before I leave… so what do you recommend as the best movie ever?

yes! I am the first to reply!

well, of course I think that Trainspotting is the best film ever made. And now that you’ve seen it I don’t need to go on about it! I love that it keeps me engaged EVERY time I watch it (which is often) and it has a milion quotable lines from it.

If you haven’t seen them then I recommend:
Red Eye (for a short and very sweet thriller)
Tim Burton films for something visual and sometimes strange (his best being Sleepy Hollow)
Tigerland (more of a character driven drama, rather than an explicitly violent war film)
Inside Man (a very smart heist movie)

I could recommend hundreds of others but I’ll stop there.

These are all random films, but they seemed to me to be films that might appeal to anyone (ie not films that you have to be fans of the director, or genre to enjoy…)

    Have fun!

    Hi,
I am a big fan of Hugh Grant so I would recommend “Love Actually”

    Enjoy your holiday!!

The funniest movie I’ve seen is Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. If you like silly fun that’s a good one.

Sorry guys, but as an old… i have to go with an all time classic. I like modern films, and i do have my favs, but the all time best ever, and it is included as number one in all the top 100 best ever lists, and one that i can thoroughly recomed because it is truly a great film, and i have seen it many times, and of course i have a copy of it on dvd and vhs, and it stars an all time great actor, with many brilliant unknowns, and of course they did get Boo Radley to come out is To kill a mockingbird. second best, Fried green tomatoes at the whistle stop cafe.

Sometimes, the oldies are the best.

    Worth watching:

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

    Heathers

    Spiderman

    Once Were Warriors

    Take Away

    Black Rock

    Natural Born Killers

    The Shawshank Redemption

    Romancing the Stone

    House of Flying Daggers

    The Goonies

Trainspotting - I agree with the other guy

now that’s an odd assortment I know, but it is difficult I find to remember so many great films that have been made.. and I find enjoying a film for me personally does depend alot on the mood I am in.

My favourite movie is Les Rivieres Pourpres, otherwise known as ‘The Crimson Rivers’. It’s a fantastic French action/psychological thriller by Mathieu Kassovitz and I love it. Another French one which is fun to watch if you have a reasonable strong stomach is ‘Brotherhood of the Wolf’. I guess it depends on your mood really, what do you feel like watching?

Trainspotting was a great movie. Also loved Goonies!

The Notebook was a bit of a “chick flick”, but worth the sit.

Favourite recent movie would have to be The Machinist. Odd movie and a little hard to follow, but keeps you guessing.

Where you heading off to? One last poem for the road?

Thankyou so much for the suggestions everyone! I like most types of movies (maybe not chick flicks or crime so much, but I’ll give anything a try), and these ideas will be helpful for the holiday! :) Thanks!

And I’m going to The Penninsula, near Rosebud for a week this Sunday… I’m so excited, it’ll be my first parent-free holiday!
I’ll definitely put up one or two more poems before I go! :)

La Haine (Hate), very intense movie, watch it wth someone.

Fight Club, I know, Brad Pitt, but I love the story.

Dog in Space, the ultimate Aussie uni flick, good luck finding a copy.

Repo Man, cool 80’s punk attitude with aliens thrown in.

Anything by David Lynch, just because.

    Enjoy!

Those sound cool, I did love Fight Club… if our video shop has La Haine, Dog in Space and Repo Man, I’ll definitely get them (sadly we have a tiny video shop, however it’s awesomely cheap!) :) Thanks!!
