Outré Gallery
Published 1 year, 9 months ago in Entertainment.Has anyone else seen the Outré Gallery in Melbourne?
I went there on a date (:D) on Saturday, and it was absolutely amazing. It’s this smallish art gallery place, FREE to get in, and it’s got the most awesome alternative art you have ever seen, so cool that it’s almost impossible to describe. It’s art that you look at, and you know that it must have taken real talent and hard work (not just some “meant to be good” fluke) to make it.
I found some the artworks to be just a little reminiscent of cartoons or even flash animations, but there is such a diverse range there. They even sell merchandise based on the art. If anyone is even remotely interested in art or if you just like looking at pretty pictures, then you have to visit Outré Gallery. Go, now! Five stars.

thanks for that…..I live and breathe art, so I just love to hear of new galleries. ( hope your date was a good one !!)
:D Oh, it definitely was… Outre gallery, Minotaur Bookshop, bubble tea, a visit to the zoo, out for dinner at a restaurant and then a movie! (hehe… sorry I can’t help bragging, it was the best day). The best part was the guy though
I hope you enjoy seeing Outre gallery, you can even buy the art if you want (but it’s super expensive). Do you know of any other interesting art galleries?
sounds v interesting…..you can never have too much art. p.s your date sounded awesome.
Hmm, you should look for the magazine ‘Juxtopose’ if you liked Outre. Outre is more of a shop though. You wil find that most small commercial galleries are free as they are making money selling artwork. Pick up the ‘Art Almanac’ if you want to see more.
Ahh, I love art
Outre is great for seeing classics like Banksy, Obey, Dalek, etc.. but you won’t find many one-offs there. I’m not sure how well the numbered prints will go in terms of long-term investments. Loving them is the most important thing though.
You might want to look out for exhibitions at the Backwoods gallery in Richmond - it’s more reclaimed-industrial, and local artists are often more affordable than Outre range of international prints.
Per Square Metre on Johnston Street in Collingwood has frequent exhibitions too, from local and international street artists in particular.
Also, don’t buy art books from Outre! For some reason their mark-up is higher than finding the same art books in regular bookstores.
Hehe… aww, don’t worry, I can’t buy anything from Outre or any other gallery, I’m broke!
But thanks for the ideas of other art galleries
